Dear Members of the SUNY Oswego Community,

Following a competitive national search, I am excited to announce that Lynn Braun has been selected to serve as SUNY Oswego’s Director of Counseling Services. In this leadership role within the Division of Student Affairs, Braun will serve as a champion for the student experience working to advance mental health services, resources and systems at SUNY Oswego to support student success.

Counseling Services (CS) at SUNY Oswego is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive student learning and psychological wellbeing program providing a diverse array of services so that students can be more successful in their academic, personal and career pursuits. CS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) and hosts master's-level graduate trainees and counselor education doctoral-level trainees for clinical internships from five accredited education programs.

As director, Braun will serve on the Division of Student Affairs leadership team and will oversee personnel selection and evaluation, program planning and evaluation, and budget planning and management of resources within CS. She and members of the CS staff will set and carry out annual goals and objectives, continuously assessing, monitoring, and improving service offerings and the CS's model of care in response to the changing needs of students and the university. As the director, Braun will also be called upon to provide guidance to the broader university community on student mental health emergencies and services.

Braun most recently served as Assistant Dean of Campus Wellness and Director of Counseling and Accessibility Services at Defiance College (in Ohio). She was with Defiance College for 11 years. Prior to that she worked in community mental health, and has taught undergraduate and graduate coursework in psychology and counseling psychology.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and mathematics secondary education from West Virginia Wesleyan College; a master’s degree in counseling and social psychology from Ball State University; and a PhD (ABD) in counseling psychology from West Virginia University.

Lynn also serves on the Board of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, chairing the Director Development Committee, and serving on the Research Committee.

Lynn will begin working remotely on January 23 and her first day on campus will be February 6, 2023. Her office will be located in the Mary Walker Health Center. Please join me in welcoming Lynn to the SUNY Oswego community!
