I am pleased to announce that Mallory Bower has been appointed as director of EXCEL: Experiential Courses and Engaged Learning after serving as interim director for the past year.

Mallory joined the SUNY Oswego community over 10 years ago. Most recently she served as the assistant director for experiential curriculum and assessment in EXCEL. She supported the department through experiential curriculum development and strategic planning for high-level retention programs.

She advocated for and created a first-year extended orientation course (GST 104 - Experiential Learning in College), which will become an all-college requirement beginning in fall 2024. She has been a champion for DEI and career readiness initiatives, student belongingness and success, instructor development and service learning.

Previous to her time at EXCEL, she served the institution in Career Services and was integral to launching the industry-centric model for career coaching and employer relations. Mallory has been recognized several times by the SUNY Career Development Organization for her work related to career readiness and inclusive excellence.

She has a bachelor of science in communication from Clarion University, a master of arts in student affairs in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and has worked in career services at UNC-Pembroke, which is a historically Native American-Serving Institution.

Please join me in congratulating her for this well-deserved promotion.
