Calling all students! The Division of Student Affairs is seeking applications from students to serve on its Advisory Board. Use your voice by serving as a member of the 2022-2023 Division of Student Affairs Advisory Board (DSAAB). Apply today!

What is the Division of Student Affairs Advisory Board (DSAAB)? The DSAAB is designed to ensure open communication between a representative body of students and the individuals charged with providing leadership within the Division of Student Affairs. Meetings will provide a forum for the exchange of information and allow members the opportunity to provide input on a variety of matters related to student life at SUNY Oswego. The group is not a decision-making body. Its primary focus will be on identifying successes that should be recognized and celebrated, and problems that should be defined with solutions proposed.

Who serves on this advisory board? The group will be composed of representative student volunteers selected by the Vice President's Cabinet each fall. Members will be appointed to serve for the entirety of the academic year. Advisory board representatives may invite a guest to attend a specific meeting for the purposes of discussing a specific topic, with Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) Kathleen Kerr’s permission. No more than two guests may attend any one meeting. The VPSA, administrative assistant, associate vice president, dean of students and two assistant vice presidents will be present and may also bring guests to speak on specific issues.

What is the charge of the Student Affairs Advisory Board (DSAAB)?  All Board members are expected to:

  • Attend all meetings, arrive on time, and remain for the full hour.
  • Talk and listen.
  • Advise DSA leadership at Board meetings about things that are going well, and share problems, concerns and other thoughts that may be valuable for the Board to discuss.
  • Reach out to individual VPSA Cabinet members for individual support or to discuss sensitive matters not appropriate for the full Board.
  • Be a problem solver.

When are the meetings and how often are they held? All meetings will be held monthly on a Thursday (see schedule below) from noon to 1 p.m. in Culkin Hall, Room 711. Light seasonal snacks and beverages will be provided. Advisory board members' attendance is expected unless unforeseeable circumstances arise. Minutes from each meeting will be sent to DSAAB members, guests and members of the Vice President for Student Affairs Cabinet. Board members are asked to read them, question items that are unclear, and share information discussed with constituent groups and other students.

The DSAAB Advisory Board will meet on the following dates:

  • Oct. 6, 2022
  • Nov. 3, 2022
  • Dec. 1, 2022
  • Feb. 2, 2023
  • March 2, 2023
  • April 4, 2023
  • May 4, 2023
