Dear SUNY Oswego Campus Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that Kate Wolfe-Lyga, LMHC, ACS, director of Counseling Services, has announced her departure from SUNY Oswego to pursue new professional opportunities. Her final day will be Sept. 6, 2022.

Kate joined SUNY Oswego in January 2016 and since that time has led the department in several initiatives and successes, including:

  • Department accreditation through the International Association of Counseling Services
  • Award of SAMHSA's Garrett Lee Smith suicide prevention grant (2020-2023)
  • Expansion of counseling groups, Let's Talk programs and crisis services
  • Pilot of a Residence Life Mental Health Counselor
  • Expansion of clinical internship agreements, including Ph.D. and master’s programs in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling and counselor education from four universities
  • Transition to telecounseling to support continued services for online students

Additionally, Kate has served as the president of SUNY Counseling Directors, secretary to the board for the Association for University and College Counseling Directors, and a member of the SUNY Mental Health Task Force and SUNY Mental Health Advisory Committee. We are incredibly grateful for her contributions to our campus and to our students over the last six years. She will be missed on campus by students and colleagues!

Jane LeBlanc, LMHC, ACS, associate director of Counseling Services, will assume the position of interim director, while SUNY Oswego plans to launch a national search this fall to permanently fill the director role.

Jane began her work at SUNY Oswego in 2000, as the coordinator for community services. In 2003, she joined Counseling Services as a staff therapist and was appointed associate director in 2017. She has led the department's clinical operations, as well as assessment and quality assurance since that time. In her role, Jane has supervised clinical staff and interns, and functioned as the system administrator for the department's electronic health record. Additionally, she has provided leadership in multiple division and college initiatives over the years. I am thrilled that Jane is willing to step into this interim role and appreciate the leadership that she will continue to provide to the Counseling Services team and the crucial services they provide to our students.

If you have any questions about this leadership transition, please feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathleen G. Kerr
Vice President for Student Affairs
