The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites the campus to attend the 2024 SUNY Oswego-Pragda Latin American Film Festival, starting on Monday, Sept. 23.

In conjunction with the kick-off of the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month, the festival will showcase five compelling films that explore themes of diversity, inclusion, gender issues and the vibrant world of Latin American music.

This festival aims to foster discussion and reflection on these important topics through the lens of cinema. All five films will be announced in the SUNY Oswego campus events calendar as well.

All films will screen from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Marano Campus Campus Center auditorium (room 132) and will include:

  • Monday, Sept. 23: "Home is Somewhere Else" (Mexico/USA)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9: "Boca Chica" (Dominican Republic)
  • Wednesday, Oct. 30: "Money Exchange" (Argentina)
  • Monday, Nov. 11: "Guarani" (Paraguay)
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20: "Miúcha" (Brazil)

Each screening will be followed by an engaging discussion, allowing attendees to delve deeper into the films' themes and their relevance to contemporary society. This festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Latin American culture and its rich storytelling practices, organizers said.
