SUNY Oswego announced that for the first time ever, employees of the university will have the opportunity to sign up their children for the popular Barbara Shineman Summer Scholars programs before they sell out. The summer camps offer a unique and educational experience for children, with sessions that focus on exploring nature, STEAM activities and more.

The Barbara Shineman Summer Scholars programs consist of three sessions: Exploring Nature at Rice Creek Field Station, Sheldon Institute and STEAM Camp. The sessions run for six consecutive weeks from July 10 to Aug. 18; you can sign up for one week, two weeks or even all six weeks of programming.

All three sessions sell out, which is why SUNY Oswego wanted to give employees the first chance to register their children.

"We are thrilled to offer our employees the opportunity to sign up their children for the Barbara Shineman Summer Scholars programs before they sell out," said Jill Pippin, dean of extended learning at SUNY Oswego. "As a parent who has sent her children to these programs, I know it's a terrific opportunity for kids, and I loved having my children on campus with me in the summer."

The Exploring Nature session will take place at the Rice Creek Field Station on July 10 to 14 and July 17 to 21, and will offer children the chance to learn about the environment through hands-on activities, hikes and experiments. The Sheldon Institute, July 24 through Aug. 4, will offer courses in robotics, astronomy, creative writing and much more. The STEAM Camp Aug. 7 to 11 and Aug. 14 to 18 will focus on science, technology, engineering, art and math, and will include activities such as building robots and designing video games.

Registration for the Barbara Shineman Summer Scholars programs is open exclusively to SUNY Oswego employees as of March 10 on a first-come, first-served basis. Employees will be able to register their children through oswego.edu/summercamps.
