Mary Walker Health Center’s Health Services recently received good news in survey results provided by the American College Health Association (ACHA).

SUNY Oswego’s Health Services was one of 39 schools participating in the Patient Satisfaction Assessment Service (PSAS) survey for the fall 2022 to spring 2023 academic year.

“The ACHA-PSAS supports the health of the campus community by fulfilling the academic mission, supporting short- and long-term healthy behaviors, and gaining a current profile of health trends with the campus community,” the ACHA-PSAS Reference Group Fall 2022-Spring 2023 Data Report explained.

The patient satisfaction survey encompasses questions about the student’s demographics including the student’s academic class year, gender identity, sexual orientation and nationality. Questions inquired about the facility, scheduling, staff attentiveness and knowledge, and students' perspective on confidentiality, privacy and overall satisfaction.

The ACHA-PSAS survey used a 0 to 5 scale, with 0 as very dissatisfied and 5 as very satisfied, with overall ratings calculated in the 25th, 50th and 75th percentiles. Health Services rated among the best, coming in above the 75th percentile in all categories.

  • 90 percent of students answered "yes" to the health services as the usual source of care while enrolled in school.
  • 95 percent of cis women, 94 percent of cis men and 93 percent of trans/gender non-conforming individuals indicated satisfaction with their provider fostering safe and trusting care.
  • 88 percent of students agree that the services provided made it easier for the students to achieve their academic goals.
  • 92 percent of students agreed that the health services provided made it easier for the student to remain enrolled in school.

Students had the opportunity to include comments in their survey submissions. These responses do go unnoticed, as it is the mission of Health Services to promote the health and wellness of students so that they can be successful in their academic pursuits, personal lives and be able to make positive personal health choices and decisions. Anonymous responses included:

  • “The online process made it very easy to book an appointment. When I called and needed to be seen sooner, they were able to get me in. Very satisfied with the level of care I received. Everyone was really nice.”
  • “Very sweet staff all around, very attentive and understanding. Addressed concerns I was having and helped me set up a follow-up appointment.”
  • “Amazing, every staff member is very nice and helps you feel slightly better, even when you are feeling your worst.”

"It is moments like these that Health Services should celebrate their efforts and applaud their team for their dedication and service", officials said.

The Health Services team will use these survey results for reflection and will continue to maintain and improve their efforts to achieve their vision to provide the highest quality care to students at SUNY Oswego through their delivery of outstanding and accessible health and wellness services.
