As this year's 39th annual ALANA (African, Latino, Asian and Native American) Conference prepares to wrap up this weekend, upcoming events provide inspiration while honoring a lifetime leader as well as encourage service.
The "Rise and Lead Conference Dinner" concludes the ALANA Leadership Conference, and recaps the conference, encouraging students to continue their pursuit of leadership and personal development on Saturday, Sept. 27, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m. dinner. The event is free, but registration is required via this link.
The event will feature a special tribute to the life and legacy of one of SUNY Oswego's most outstanding leaders, the late Howard Gordon. Gordon co-founded the ALANA Multicultural Leadership Conference in 1986, and played key roles in creating programs, events and environments for students, faculty and staff to connect, grow and thrive at SUNY Oswego, with a special emphasis on students and staff of color.
The dinner will include a leadership keynote from Dar Mayweather, who will speak about consistency and commitment to growth and development.
Attendees can enjoy multicultural cuisines. Prize winners will be selected.
From 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, "Empowered to Lead: Community Service" invites participants to serve the campus community by taking part in the Shining Waters Project to clean the campus lakeshore. Use this link to sign up.
Please note that you must check in with a team member at the Marano Campus Center Welcome Desk, before walking together to the shore site. The meet-up timeframes are:
