The Counseling Services Center offers a new RIO (Recognition, Insight and Openness) workshop series that can help students gain more insight into their internal emotional experiences, and tools and strategies that help students to handle painful thoughts and feelings effectively.
RIO is a three-session workshop where students commit to coming to each session. During the sessions, students will follow along with the group and the counselor in a workbook to help them explore and better manage these emotions, figuring out what they wish to change and how to get there.

RIO was designed to:
  • help participants gain a deeper understanding of the issue or issues that prompted them to seek counseling
  • create flexibility in how participants view and approach these issues
  • help participants become aware of your moment-to-moment experiences
  • help participants take the first steps towards living with a wide range of human emotions
  • help participants get a better sense of personal values, goals and how they want to focus their energy

Workshops are available on the following schedules:

  • 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 6, 13 and 20
  • noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 7, 14 and 21
  • 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5
  • 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 3, 10 and 17
  • noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 4, 11 and 18

This group is ideal for students who are not yet willing to commit to therapy but would like a boost of motivation with some direction. Sessions will focus on emotional concerns with a bit of homework required.
