Tragedy, comedy arise in ‘Fun Home’ as author explores tangle of memories

SUNY Oswego’s spring musical, "Fun Home," is a memory play that director and theatre faculty member Jonel Langenfeld likens to a snow globe -- one that allows the main character to observe from outside the good, the bad and the ugly of her fraught but loving relationship with her late father.

Focus on Faculty concert to feature Avalon duo plus alumnus

Juliet Forshaw, a member of the SUNY Oswego music faculty, will appear in concert Sunday, April 14, with duo partner Michael Judge and bassist and 2012 Oswego alumnus Taylor Ricks to perform "Living on Faith" and other original songs of "sharing your life with another person."

Student's community mandala invites public participation

Asli Kinsizer first made a trip from her native Turkey to SUNY Oswego as a mentor to high school students competing in the GENIUS Olympiad. Less than four years later, she is a graduate student at the college, considers Oswego home and is excitedly awaiting public participation in finishing her mandala in Penfield Library.

Monks to create mandala during weeklong 'Mystical Arts of Tibet'

World-touring monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery will promote peace and spiritual healing April 8 to 12 as they demonstrate "The Mystical Arts of Tibet," performing colorful and musical rituals around their construction of a mandala in the main lobby of SUNY Oswego's Penfield Library.

Recital to feature electronic music, guests, inventions

SUNY Oswego faculty member Paul Leary, who specializes in music technology, composition and flute, will offer a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, in Tyler Hall's Room 11, featuring two students, his wife, one or more of his electronic music inventions, and a mix video from the recent premiere of Leary's original multimedia work, "Larger Than Us."

Exhibition to feature artwork of acrylics painter Wendy Stein

A free, public reception Thursday, April 4, will kick off a exhibition at SUNY Oswego in Syracuse titled "Somewhere Else: Paintings by Wendy Stein" and showcasing the abstract stylings of the artist's acrylic paintings through a lens of playful and empathic brush strokes.

Student honors play 'The Good Doctor' to portray absurdity, surprises in life

Combine classic tales by famed Russian writer Anton Chekhov with the wit and whimsy of Neil Simon, the author of many Broadway hits, and the result is "The Good Doctor," a series of 10 vignettes in one play, to take the stage in March as SUNY Oswego's annual student honors production.
