October is National Retirement Security Month (NRSM), a national event to promote the benefits of saving for retirement.
This month, the college's Office of Human Resources encourages everyone to think about their retirement plans and to review all available options, including employer-sponsored offered by SUNY. Online information is available on the retirement plans and supplemental retirement savings plans available to SUNY Oswego employees.
NSRM is a good time to recognize the importance of planning now to enjoy a more secure retirement later, while learning more about the different ways to do that. Below are some educational resources focused on these aspects:
- The National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators, Inc. offers videos focused on early-, mid- and late-career stages, as well snapshots of savings journey maps for those under 35, ages 35-50 and over 50.
- The National Association of Retirement Plan Participants offers calculators for paying down debt and savings returns, and a retirement plan jargon glossary.
- The International City/County Management Association Retirement Corporation provides financial education short videos, calculators, and webinars for each week of October. Find online more information about the webinars and how to register.
- SUNY's Financial Education and Planning webpage offers a variety of resources, tools and calculators to assist with both short- and long-term financial goals.
- SUNY's Choosing Your Investments webpage offers introductory information to help familiarize employees with investments so they can make more educated decisions on where and how to invest money.
The resources allow employees to use the present time to plan for their financial future.
