The largest fundraiser for the college's State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) campaign -- Baskets of Caring -- will look different this year but still rely on creative donations to continue the event's fun tradition.

This year's SEFA-United Way Baskets of Caring event will run from 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 (link will be provided closer to the event). As in other years, people can bid by "voting" for the basket they would like to win via $1 ticket purchases, albeit online instead of in the Marano Campus Center concourse as in previous years.

Each year, the SEFA campaign asks groups/buildings/student clubs to create a themed basket. For this year, it could include buildings, floors, departments or offices collaborating, even if some are working remotely.

The donated baskets will appear online during the ticket sales dates, so participants should email Shelly Sloan a photo as well as a full description of the contents included in the basket. If the basket includes alcohol or lottery tickets, please be sure to note that so organizers can properly label the baskets and check ages of winners.

Baskets may be dropped off at 702 Culkin Hall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6.

The campus community is invited to buy chances on their favorites for $1 each. Last year, the event raised approximately $4,000 in just two days. Organizers know that this year will present challenges for creating baskets and collecting from employees, but the need this year is greater than ever, so they appreciate anybody who can help us by putting on their creative thinking caps, assembling fun baskets and making Baskets of Caring another successful event.

The group whose basket generates the greatest ticket sales will win an award. Last year's winner was the fourth floor of Culkin Hall.

Drawings for the winners of the baskets will be live streamed at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13.
