The college will celebrate Earth Month with a week of daily campus cleanups, a seed sharing event, two-day thrift sale, an Arbor Day webinar and more.
The Office of Sustainability, which is spearheading most of the events, will host campus cleanups at a variety of times every day during Earth Week from Monday, April 19, to Friday, April 23. Cleanups run around an hour and will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, 1 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. Wednesday, 5 p.m. Thursday and 3 p.m. Friday. Participants should report to the Sustainability Office, 126A Hewitt, 10 minutes before each cleanup.
A SeedShare launch party, at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 22, will unfold in the campus Permaculture Garden between the Shineman Center and Lee Hall. Attendees will participate in wildflower seeding and learn about the newly launched SeedShare program. People should register via Google form.
The Spring Thrift Sale, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 26 and 27, will offer bargains to the campus community while extolling the values of reuse. The small-scale thrift sale, which will take place outside the office in Hewitt, represents a chance to give back in the form of low-cost thrift clothing and informative facts on the benefits of partaking in slow fashion. Purchases will be cash-only.
For the second year in a row, members of the public are invited to celebrate National Arbor Day with the Canal Forest Restoration Project (CFRP) team at Rice Creek Field Station via a free online webinar conference on Friday, April 30. Speakers hailing from as close as the city of Oswego and as far away as the Chicago Botanic Garden will highlight different projects and perspectives on forests, trees and the environment, from history to art, grass-roots reforestation to fostering connections between people and plants, and two perspectives on maple sugaring. Visit the conference website for more information and to register.
