Each year, the State University of New York recognizes outstanding professional service through the conferral of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Nominees must be individuals of superior achievement, committed to the State University and its students, respected by the campus community and worthy of emulation by colleagues and students on campus and across the entire System. Additionally, candidates must have completed three academic years of full-time professional service in the position for which they are nominated immediately prior to the year of nomination. This award is appropriate for staff serving in a full-time professional service capacity whose assignment is more than 50 percent in a non-teaching status, including academic administration; development and alumni relations; finance and administrative affairs; student affairs; enrollment management; institutional technologies; and Research Foundation.


Nominators must submit a nomination and letter via the online nomination form by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. Nominators will remain anonymous throughout the process. The nomination letter should address in detail how the nominee:

  • Performed superbly in fulfilling the job description for the position held;
  • Demonstrated excellence in professional activities beyond the parameters of the job description;
  • Displayed creativity and innovation; and
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to institutional needs.

Nominees will be informed of the nomination in mid-November. Nominee(s) wishing to accept the nomination must submit a nominee acceptance form providing names and contact information for five reference writers (reference writers may be internal and/or external, however, one must be from their current supervisor) by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19. All letters of support should be addressed to Kathleen Evans, Chair, Chancellor’s Award Committee for Professional Service, and emailed as a PDF to Michele May at michele.may@oswego.edu no later than Friday, Dec. 10.

Additionally, nominee(s) will also be required to email their vita (must include date of appointment to SUNY System, highest rank attained and date of appointment to that rank) as well as their current performance program to michele.may@oswego.edu by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10.
