Sustainability Week, Oct. 18 to 23, invites students, faculty and staff to show their Laker pride by participating in sustainable efforts across our campus with a week full of programs and events that include composting, hiking, seed saving, campus cleanups, tree planting and a fall festival.

Events will include:

  • Focused on Food: On Monday, Oct. 18, throughout campus, a small-scale composting initiative with Auxiliary Services will begin in residential dining and choice retail cafes; additionally those with reusable mugs will get 25 cents off coffee purchases in Auxiliary Services locations on campus
  • Outdoor Day at Rice Creek: On Tuesday, Oct. 19, a series of events at the college's field station will promote the many benefits of nature.
  • Sunflower Seed Savers: On Wednesday, Oct. 20, join an effort to harvest sunflower seeds at the Permaculture Living Laboratory, and take some seeds home in the process.
  • Shining Waters campus-wide clean-up: On Thursday, Oct. 21, join student group Shining Waters and other organizations and individuals in a service activity to clean litter around campus.
  • Fall Festival: Running 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, in the permaculture garden, this festival celebrates the college's sustainability initiatives and how the campus community can get involved.
  • Centennial Arboretum Planting: On Saturday, Oct. 23, planting of new trees will revive the Centennial Arboretrum, created behind Moreland Hall in 1961 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of what is now SUNY Oswego.
