SUNY Oswego celebrates National Transfer Student Week from Oct. 18 to 22. The week will feature a variety of events including transfer-specific advisement, information about internships, how to market their transfer-unique skills on LinkedIn, connecting and networking with transfer alumni and ending the week with a social event with Tau Sigma, the National Transfer Student Honor Society.

On Monday, Oct. 18, "Become a LinkedIn Superhero" will feature Career Coach Christine Barkley discussing the critical importance of LinkedIn to expand your professional career connections at 2 p.m. in 208 Marano Campus Center. Starting now as a student, and continuing after college throughout one's career, LinkedIn can serve as the go-to platform for professional development and networking. Barkley will cover how to create a LinkedIn profile that brings a student's personal career story to life. Whether starting out with the platform or are seeking to advance their LinkedIn abilities, anybody can benefit from these important tips. Students are encouraged to bring laptops.

A Degree Progress Review program, available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in 151 Marano Campus Center, will help transfer students understand how their credits transfer and what their degree progress looks like. Transfers can stop by the Advisement Centerduring this time to meet with Kayle Light-Curtin for a deep-dive review of their transfer credits and the DegreeWorks tool. The event is timely with spring 2022 registration approaching, and no appointment is required.

The importance of internship experiences and how to obtain them will drive "Sail Into Your Internship," at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in 142 Marano Campus Center. Tina Cooper, SUNY Oswego's internship coordinator, will talk to attendees about how to lock down their first internship as a new Laker. Online registration via this link is requested.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, SUNY Oswego students will have the opportunity to speak with alumni transfer students Christina Born ‘14 and Judith Ferguson ‘18 about their journey as SUNY Oswego transfer students. The virtual panel discussion also will feature the alumni panelists answering questions about their time as students. Students can access the event via Zoom.

On Friday, Oct. 22, students are invited to meet with Tau Sigma, the National Transfer Student Honor Society, for some breakfast goodies, pins, stickers and to enter to win some Oswego gear from 9 to 11 a.m. in 114 Marano Campus Center. Attendees can meet other transfer students and learn more about transfer activities at SUNY Oswego.

Tau Sigma is an academic honor society designed specifically to recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students. Each year top performing transfer students are invited to join and become involved in leadership opportunities, community service and social events.
