Dear Members of the Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that Magdalena "Maggie" Rivera, has been appointed Student Outreach and Support Coordinator in the Office of the Dean of Students (ODS) effective April 1, 2022.

This new position, reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, serves as a resource, advocate and liaison for a diverse population of students and works to ensure that the emerging needs of our students are met. This position provides case management for students experiencing significant difficulties that impact their ability to be successful at SUNY Oswego; assists students in navigating campus and community services; plans and provides a variety of interventions, referrals and follow-up services; serves as a resource to College colleagues; and helps to provide quality integrated support for students.

"I am very excited and honored to join Oswego's Office of the Dean of Students in the role of Student Outreach and Support Coordinator to help champion the important and holistic work of the student experience; ensure student success; and offer dynamic student engagement opportunities and an inclusive, healthy, learning environment for all students," Rivera said.

Maggie is currently in her 13th year at SUNY Oswego. She has actively guided and assisted the leaders of student ethnic and cultural organizations in their annual planning and weeklong presentation each September of the college’s ALANA -- African, Latino, Asian and Native American -- Student Leadership Conference. Rivera also formerly served as the college’s Greek Life advisor, Student Association Programming Board advisor, faculty resident mentor, faculty resident director and conference coordinator through Hart Hall Global Living and Learning Center, and as project assistant for several study abroad trips through the Office of International Education and Programs.

Rivera, who earned her Certificate of Advanced Studies in Student Development as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees from SUNY Oswego, was named among the 2018 Successful Business Women, sponsored by the Central New York Business Journal and BizEventz. Recently, she was appointed to the CNY Arts Board of Directors.

Please join me in congratulating Maggie on this new appointment, and thanking her for the tireless and staunch student advocate she has become on our campus!
