What is the Student Association?

The Student Association (SA)  acts as a governing body and a voice to the students here at SUNY Oswego. Its dedicated staff and elected officers serve as liaisons to the administration and faculty to address student concerns and empower students through their academic careers. Our purpose is to promote the needs and wants of the students while also overseeing the funding of many clubs and organizations on campus. SA has a budget of approximately $1.8 million (and is a 501c3 non-profit organization), which is allocated to our many active and passionate student-run organizations, while also funding several services on campus. SA comprises several bodies: Executive (composed of the President's Cabinet), Legislative (The Senate), and Judicial that all serve to uphold the constitution of the Student Association.

Director Expectations and Responsibilities (applicable to all Cabinet positions):
  • Attend weekly Cabinet meetings at the determined time and location. If you are unable to attend a meeting, the Chief of Staff or President should be notified in advance with a reasonable excuse.
  • Brief the Student Association Senate on your work, projects or initiatives biweekly, and attend the Senate meetings at the President's discretion or when invited to attend by the Vice President. Meetings will concur Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in Lanigan Hall.
  • At the President's appointment, represent the SUNY Oswego Student Association on SUNY Student Assembly committees.
  • Sit on SUNY administration committees when appointed by the SA President.
  • Adhere to the Constitution and By-Laws of the Student Association.
  • Carry out any programs or initiatives assigned to you in a timely and reasonable manner, and with discussion, by the President.
  • Hold at least three (3) hours of office hours in The Point weekly. These may include (but are not limited to) committees or initiatives that consume time during said week, as instructed by the President.
  • Carry yourself in a respectful manner as you serve as a representative of the Student Association and a role model to the campus community.
