As a reminder, the campus is migrating from Blackboard to Brightspace for the fall 2022 semester. All courses taught with or supplemented by Blackboard will need to migrate. To begin the transition, some pilot courses are being taught in Brightspace over the summer 2022 semester.

The Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Transition team continues facilitating the transition; below, you'll find an update on what the team has been working on since its last communication on June 1

Accessing Brightspace

Access to Brightspace is available from www.oswego.edu/mylearning.  A login button is also on the DLE website.  As of June 13, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is now required to log into Brightspace.

Summer pilot courses

Additional summer pilot courses went live using Brightspace on June 13. Ten fully online courses being taught by seven faculty are currently using Brightspace. Approximately 16 additional faculty will use Brightspace for subsequent summer session courses.

Fall course migrations

All fully online courses were automatically migrated to Brightspace. This was completed on June 9.

The DLE transition team has started working on migrating courses for faculty who submitted the Fall 2022 Course Migration Request form before 1:30 p.m. on June 10. It is expected these will be completed by Friday, June 17. Going forward all requests submitted using the form will be processed weekly on Friday for submissions received prior to 8 a.m. Note the migration of courses is currently taking approximately five business days to complete due to the volume of migrations occurring at other SUNY schools.

Faculty can also choose to migrate courses themselves or start fresh in Brightspace. The Prepping Your Course for Migration document provides more detailed information on these options.

Brightspace migration tip

The DLE transition team has had questions from faculty about Blackboard quizzes not being properly migrated into Brightspace. This issue presents itself in one of two ways: (1) The quizzes migrate, but no materials are found in the Brightspace Question Library, or (2) no quizzes appear, but there is material in the Question Library.  The team has documented how to fix quizzes in Brightspace under these scenarios so your quizzes show up properly.

Help and support

The DLE transition team has been working on frequently asked questions (FAQ) that we hope will help answer some of your questions. If you find issues or have questions not covered in the FAQ, you may call or email the SUNY Oswego Help Desk and a ticket will be directed to the DLE team to answer.

More information on the Blackboard to Brightspace transition is available on the SUNY Oswego DLE website.
