The Digital Learning Environment (DLE) team wants to remind faculty and students that the campus is migrating from Blackboard to Brightspace for the fall 2022 semester. All courses taught with or supplemented by Blackboard need to migrate.

With less than two weeks remaining before the start of the semester, the DLE team is happy to report that many faculty are well on their way in making the transition. If faculty have not started migrating fall 2022 courses, the team encourages you to start now to avoid start-of-semester issues.

Course migrations

Faculty that still need to migrate fall 2022 courses can request they be migrated or they can manually export them from Blackboard and import them into Brightspace themselves. The DLE Support page will guide you through these options.

Course content review

All courses that have migrated, whether by request or manually, should be reviewed to ensure all the content migrated and acts as expected. Faculty can use this migration guide to assist with this process. The guide continues to evolve as the team works through the transition.

Brightspace training

 If you need Brightspace training:

  • The SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD) is offering training in various modalities, including an asynchronous course available right in Brightspace.
  • The college is complementing the CPD training with weekday online office hours and Migration and Munchies in-person help sessions through Aug. 19. Virtual office hours will continue into the fall semester starting Aug. 22.

The DLE Training page has more information about these options as well as additional training resources.

Winter and spring 2023 course migrations

All courses being taught for the upcoming winter semester will be migrated automatically. There will be a call this upcoming fall semester for any course migrations needed for the spring 2023 semester. That call will be made in September.

References to Blackboard

In the next coming week, a Brightspace link will be added to the main SUNY Oswego website under the profile icon near the search button.

The Blackboard website will continue to be available with a login link, but only faculty and staff will be able to log in. Faculty that may have students completing coursework for incomplete grades should make a request to the CTS Help Desk for the student to have access to Blackboard.

Departments that have references to Blackboard on their own departmental websites should start reviewing that content and make any necessary changes to refer to Brightspace. Other materials referring to Blackboard should also be updated.

Questions?

If you have issues or questions not covered on the SUNY Oswego DLE website, please call or email the SUNY Oswego Help Desk and a ticket will be directed to the DLE team to answer.
