Penfield Library is looking for people to share their stories at their "Laker Lives Story Sharing Event" in October.

Organizers are particularly seeking students, faculty, and staff who are interested in sharing stories about themselves that break down stereotypes (widely held but oversimplified ideas of a particular type of person) and build bridges with others in the SUNY Oswego campus community. Those interested in participating should complete this short volunteer form and tell organizers more about themselves by the deadline of Monday, Oct. 3.

Members of the campus community who know of others with interesting stories in this theme are invited to forward this information to them and encourage them to volunteer.

The 2022 Laker Lives Story Sharing Event will be held in person at Penfield Library from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The event is a community-building opportunity that is also expected to be fun and interesting.

Volunteers who choose to share their stories can expect to have engaging one-on-one or small-group conversations with participants who have signed up to talk with -- and learn more about -- them. Questions and interactive conversations will happen during 20-minute blocks of time. Participants can even end up making new friends in the process

Penfield Library will provide tips and guidance for volunteers, particularly for those who aren't sure what to say.
