Van driver training sessions will begin in early October for students interested in operating college-owned 12-passenger vans for various events and activities.

SUNY Oswego policy requires that in order to operate these vans, students must be 18 years of age, possess a valid U.S. driver’s license, and complete a driver training session. This includes students who are responsible for transporting persons in the vans for departmental purposes such as academic field trips, residence life and housing programs, athletic contests, and community service.

It is recommended, but not required, that faculty and staff complete the driver training prior to operating a 12-passenger van.

All participants must be fully vaccinated (as defined on the Center for Disease Control website) for COVID-19 prior to attending training. Boosters are highly recommended.

In addition, prior to attending training, participants must bring their valid U.S. driver’s license to 711 Culkin Hall during business hours, and complete a NYS DMV LENS form. Training sessions are four hours in length, and include both classroom and behind-the-wheel driving experience. There is no cost for the training. Training only needs to be completed once.

To register for van driver training, email studentaffairs@oswego.edu with your name and first two choices (see dates and times below) for training. You will receive a written confirmation of registration via email. There is a limit of eight individuals per session. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Individual sessions may be cancelled and/or rescheduled as necessary due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. Notice of cancellation will be sent to participants via email as early as possible, with the option of enrolling in another session whenever possible.

If you have any questions, please email studentaffairs@oswego.edu or call the Student Affairs office at 315.312.3214.
