Penfield Library will host two faculty award winners at a Faculty Research Sharing Event at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Penfield 215.

The thought-provoking hour will feature esteemed SUNY Oswego faculty members Rebecca Burch and Shashi Kanbur as they share highlights and insights into their respective research activities. All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to attend what is expected to be an engaging event.

Rebecca Burch is a professor in the Human Development Department at SUNY Oswego. She received her Ph.D. at SUNY Albany in evolution and human behavior. Her main research interests are the evolution of sexual behavior, sexual signaling, domestic violence and cultural differences and similarities in various human behaviors, including sex, parenting, play, gender and development. She also has an interest in evolution’s effect on popular culture. Burch is the 2022 recipient of the President's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity.

Shashi Kanbur is a professor in the Physics and the Atmospheric and Geological Sciences Departments at SUNY Oswego, and director of the astronomy program. He teaches a wide range of courses, from introductory physics and astronomy to cosmology and general relativity. His main research interests center around stellar pulsation and evolution, cosmology, and the extra-galactic distance scale. His research is funded by NASA/Hubble Space Telescope, National Science Foundation and the American Astronomical Society. Kanbur is the 2021 recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activities.
