Penfield Library is hosting a Faculty Research Sharing event on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. in Penfield 215.

This is anticipated to be a thought-provoking hour with esteemed SUNY Oswego faculty members Yonggang Wang of atmospheric and geological sciences and Marthinus Koen of criminal justice as they share highlights and insights into their respective research activities. All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to attend.

Wang is an assistant professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences at SUNY Oswego. He finished his PhD degree at the University of Wyoming and worked as a research faculty at Texas Tech University. Wang is a meteorologist and climatologist. He has taught meteorology, climatology and numerical weather and climate prediction. His research interests include numerical weather and earth system modeling, cloud and precipitation physics and hydroclimatic predictions. Wang’s recent works have been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy that study Arctic cold-air outbreak events and lake-effect thunderstorms. Wang earned an Award of Excellence in Research and Sponsored Program gold medal in 2023.

Koen is an assistant professor in the Criminal Justice Department at SUNY Oswego, where he teaches classes such as research methods, criminological theory, policing, poaching and criminal profiling. His research interests lie in police organizational change, pandemic policing and prosecution, police technology and anti-poaching efforts in Africa. Koen’s most recent published works have focused on the impacts of body-worn cameras and COVID-19 on police and prosecutorial organizations. Marthinus is also an editorial board member of the American Journal of Qualitative Research.
