Rice Creek Associates (RCA), the support group for Rice Creek Field Station, invites the SUNY Oswego community and members of the public to attend “Experience Rice Creek: Current Discoveries, Research and Projects” from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.

This annual event highlights the scholarly research and creative accomplishments of RCA's 2023 small grants awardees.

Students, faculty, staff, family, friends and community members are invited for a chance to glimpse the behind-the-scenes work happening at Rice Creek and hear cutting-edge discoveries. New this year, additional research posters will be displayed during the social hour.

This year's format will be hybrid – in-person at Rice Creek Field Station and via Zoom.

In-person attendees should know the following:

  • Please RSVP by Friday, Nov. 10 to rca@oswego.edu, as the event is catered
  • Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Students in need of transportation should indicate this in their RSVP to arrange a shuttle pickup

 The program will run as follows: 

  • 1 to 2 p.m.: Social gathering with refreshments and poster viewing
  • 2 to 4 p.m.: Presentations

Presentations will be as follows:

  • “Typical SUNY Oswego Student Experiences in Biology and Zoology at Rice Creek Field Station and Beyond” by invited speaker David Dunn, associate professor and advisement coordinator for SUNY Oswego’s Department of Biological Sciences
  • “Establishing a long-term bird banding station on bird populations and outreach at Rice Creek” by SUNY Oswego student Fishel Connors
  • “Crochet Representatives of Insect Diversity at Rice Creek” by SUNY Oswego student Stephanie Dickert
  • “Survey of Introduced Parasitoid Wasp Dispersal and Emerald Ash Borer Infested Ash Trees in Oswego, NY” SUNY Oswego student Danielle Marichal

Free parking is available by the field station building. Students needing transportation can email rca@oswego.edu for details or call 315-312-6677 on the day of the event.
