The next Rice Creek Associates (RCA) Reflections presentation will feature Cory Brosch of SUNY Oswego's Counseling Services on the topic "Connect to Nature, Connect to Yourself" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Rice Creek Field Station.

The talk at the field station, which is free and open to the public, will discuss how spending time in nature has countless benefits for physical and mental health. Nature has the power to heal and teach lessons to help navigate daily lives, organizers said, and this presentation will address how improving one's connection to nature can impact mental health.

Brosch will introduce mindfulness-based ecotherapy techniques to help attendees gain new perspectives on personal issues, decrease stress and increase appreciation for the world and one's one self. Weather permitting, this talk will include a hands-on ecotherapy exercise.

A licensed mental health counselor and national board-certified counselor, Brosch also is certified in mindfulness-based ecotherapy and eye movement desensitization reprocessing. Brosch, who also is the training coordinator at SUNY Oswego's Counseling Services, has provided ecotherapy programming at Oswego Middle School and SUNY Oswego, and has started a new collaboration with the CNY Land Trust.

Free parking is available by the field station building. Transportation is available to students via a van shuttle pick-up on campus. Please contact rcfs@oswego.edu to ask about the van shuttle schedule.

RCA Reflections are invited talks about ecology and the environment, free and open to all to join. These talks are presented in a hybrid manner, and refreshments will be served for those attending in person. Those interested in accessing the talk via Zoom can email rca@oswego.edu.
