SUNY Oswego's interaction design program is relatively new, but already drawing national attention through a recent U.S. News and World Report article on "5 College Majors With Great Job Prospects."
Bringing together art, technology, design and communication, the bachelor of fine arts in interaction design is a unique and distinctive program that offers customized study user experience (UX), user interface (UI), motion design and XR -- a field that encompasses augmented, virtual and mixed-reality technologies.
In the U.S. News piece, Rebecca Mushtare -- an art and design faculty member and associate dean of graduate studies --notes that the degree can lead to jobs in app design, digital design, experience design, motion design, user-interface design, multimedia design, virtual reality and more.
“I think it’s a really interesting space,” Mushtare told U.S.News. “It’s creative. It can be fun. There are elements of motion, time, touch, audio and voice. You can play with all the digital media elements in one place. It’s a place where you can experiment and play, but also a space where there’s a lot of problem-solving technology.”
"Payscale reports that early-career annual pay averages $74,700 and mid-career salaries average $173,600," U.S. News contributor Anthony Todd Carlisle noted in the story.
The query came through the Office of Communications and Marketing, which reflects increased efforts in that area to position SUNY Oswego in regional, national and international publications.
