The SUNY Oswego Geology Club and geology faculty will be hosting the New York State Geological Association Field Conference on Sept. 14 and 15, and members of the campus community are invited to attend.

The field conference will be held in the South-Central Adirondacks, and will focus on the geology of Snowy Mountain Dome, Piseco Lake and surroundings. Attendees include professional geologists from around the region, students and faculty from other universities with geology programs, and many others who have an interest in the geology of New York State or the geography of the region.

This year’s NYSGA field conference will be a single field trip focusing on the structure, petrology, geochemistry and geochronology of the South-Central Adirondacks. The field trip will be led by SUNY Oswego's David Valentino, Matthew Gorring of Montclair State University and Dr. Jeff Chiarenzelli of St Lawrence University.

Field trip attendees may stay at the Lewey Lake Campground in the southern Adirondacks on Friday and Saturday night, but should email rachel.lee@oswego.edu in advance to reserve space. The field trip starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the campground entrance. Attendees will discover the Snowy Mountain AMCG suite and structural dome then traverse south across mixed metasedimentary gneisses and into the Piseco shear zone. Download the field trip guidebook for details.
