October is LGBTQIA+ History Month and SUNY Oswego is having and collaborating on a series of events to celebrate and highlight LGBTQIA+ identities and visibility for the campus community. The events are as follows:

Ongoing until Oct. 4: SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers), Career Services, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Donation Drive for household items, hygiene products and gender-affirming care products; drop-off locations available at CSTEP, the Compass (145 Marano Campus Center), Penfield Library reception desk and the Culkin Hall lobby.

October 12: ImageOut LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and Art Exhibition College Day in Rochester

  • The event is free for students
  • Transportation will be provided to and from the event via an Oswego van
  • The van will leave campus around 8:30 a.m. and return to campus around 5 p.m.
  • The event will include short films from around the world that highlight intersecting identities in the LGBTQIA+ community

Oct. 16 to 20: The Laramie Project (SUNY Oswego Theatre Department)

  • Oct. 16 to 19 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 19 and 20 at 2 p.m.
  • Directed by Steven Mazzoccone of the theatre faculty
  • The event is free for students, $10 for the general public (via tickets website)
  • There will be tables from different campus orgs and departments before the show
  • Post-show talkback with Tectonic Theater Project's Leigh Fondakowski following the Oct. 18 performance
  • Note: there is language in the play that may be triggering for some audience members

Oct. 24: "Pride and Prejudice: LGBTQIA+ History at Oswego" panel

  • More details to be announced

Oct. 15 to Dec. 6: Out-tober Art Exhibition

  • Penfield Library
  • Featuring artwork celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community by students and faculty

Oct. 25: Positivity Through Art: 2D Mural Celebration
-5 to 7 p.m. at Tyler Corner Gallery
-Produced by Danny Rafferty and Miranda Smith, with other helpers.

Pride Alliance will also host events all throughout October, including:

Oct. 8: Flags 101 (6 p.m., 225 Marano Campus Center)

Oct. 11: T-shirt tie dye (Hewitt Quad at 3 p.m.; Rain location: Swetman Gym)

Oct. 15: Button making (6 p.m., 225 Marano Campus Center)

Oct. 29: Queer Slasher Movie Night (Laker Lounge, 6 to 8 p.m.)
