SUNY's Oswego Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) student organization has earned the Superior Merit Award for the 2023-2024 academic year.
This award recognizes outstanding achievements in student chapter operations and a commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to human resource students. It also is recognition of continued growth and development as future business leaders, capable of developing strategies that lead to business success.
SHRM is a global professional organization that consists of more than 330,000 human resource professionals members in 180 countries. Its mission is to empower people and workplaces by advancing HR practices and maximizing human potential. SUNY Oswego has maintained an active student chapter since 2002.
"I'm proud of our chapter's continued effectiveness and achievements. Austin Calkins (23-24 president), Kaija Hoyt (current president), SHRM officers and student members all contributed to this high achievement, for which I am very grateful," said human resource management professor Barry A. Friedman, Oswego's SHRM faculty advisor. "The SHRM officers led several impactful events including a two-day series where students learned from HR professionals, a networking event with local HR professionals affiliated with the Central New York Professional SHRM Affiliate and career preparation meetings.”
“This award would not have been possible without the excellent support of our faculty, officers, and student members," added Calkins. "I encourage all students to explore what SHRM can offer, even if you are not an HR major. Membership provides long-lasting benefits both during college and after graduation."
Students interested in learning more about SHRM should contact Kaija Hoyt (khoyt2@oswego.edu).
