Initially piloted for eight weeks, an on-campus offering of mindful yoga has officially been extended to the end of the semester, at 4 p.m. Fridays in Lee Hall's second-floor karate studio.

A three-part restorative practice, mindful yoga focuses on body/mind/breath awareness, mindful movement and appreciation of the present moment. Each of the three sections last approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Late comers are welcome to join at anytime during the first 30 to 40 minutes.

Section one is a rotating guided group exercise such as visualization, aromatherapy, pranayama (breathing exercise), self-massage, sound therapy and the like. Section two is a restorative asana practice utilizing vinyasa and yin style yoga poses to guide the body into loosening and aligning. Section three is an extended savasana/meditation to encourage self-compassion, active presence and mindful awareness of the present.

No previous experience is necessary, classes are free and no gym membership is required.
