Your colleagues on the Public Ceremonies Committee invite you to join us as we offer our congratulations to the SUNY Oswego class of 2019.  Graduates and their families will gather for this cherished, annual milestone at Commencement, on Saturday, May 18, in the Marano Campus Center convocation hall and arena:

  • 9 a.m. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • 12:30 p.m. School of Business
  • 4 p.m. School of Communication, Media and the Arts / School of Education    

All faculty and staff are invited to participate in the May Commencement. Faculty and staff will assemble in Room 133 of the Marano Campus Center, in full academic regalia at 8:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. ceremony; noon for the 12:30 p.m. ceremony; and 3:30 p.m. for the 4 p.m. ceremony.  The processional begins promptly at 8:45 a.m./12:15 p.m./3:45 p.m. Richard Bush and Daniel Tryon, representing the Public Ceremonies Committee, will line up faculty in the Marano Campus Center in the area of the food court should you have questions. Faculty will then line up on either side of the south entrance to the rink area so the graduates can march through. Due to the size limitations of the facility, we are unable to issue any additional tickets to faculty and staff.

Marshals for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 9 a.m. ceremony are: Honors: Laura Brown and Sarah Hanusch; Undergraduate: Robert Zuber and Mihoko Tsutsumi; Graduate: Evelyn Clark and Lyn Blanchfield; and Faculty: Rachel Lee and Elizabeth Wilcox.

Marshals for the School of Business 12:30 p.m. ceremony are: Honors: Mary McGowan and Kristin Sotak; Undergraduate: Steve Abraham and Yilong Eric Zheng; Graduate: Andrea Pagano and Raihan Khan; and Faculty: Graig Arcuri and Sarah Bonzo. 

Marshals for the School of Communication, Media and the Arts/School of Education 4 p.m. ceremony are: Honors: Aleksandra Kraszpulska and Patrick Mathis; Undergraduate: Mihoko Tsutsumi and Cindi Giovo; Graduate: Michael LeBlanc and Benjamin Entner; and Faculty: Sandra Bargainnier and Mya Brown.

The readers for the 9 a.m. ceremony are Lisa M. Glidden and Elizabeth Dunne Schmitt; for the 12:30 p.m. ceremony, Irene Scruton and Dean Crawford; and for the 4 p.m. ceremony, Joanne O’Toole and Michael Riecke.

Faculty and professional staff who have retired since last Commencement will be asked to stand in place and the Provost will read each retiree’s name, years of service and department. Preceding the ceremony, a photograph will be taken with the retiree and President Deborah F. Stanley in formal academic attire. Retirees attending the 12:30 p.m. ceremony are Glynn English and Ray Morrison. Retirees Eugenio Basualdo, John Belt, Judith Belt, Robin McAleese and Edward Zak are attending the 4 p.m. ceremony. 

The 9 a.m. ceremony will feature speaker Mildred García, president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU); 12:30 p.m. ceremony will feature speaker Jeff Ragovin '00, chief growth officer, Social Native LLC; and managing partner of Ragovin Ventures; and the 4 p.m. ceremony will feature speaker Noreen Falcone, past president of the U.S. Federal Association – Order of Malta, and Yvonne Spicer '84 M'85, mayor, City of Framingham, Massachusetts. 

All graduates, family members, guests, faculty and staff are invited to attend a reception in the tent, just outside the Marano Campus Center immediately following each ceremony. This provides an opportunity to offer congratulations to the graduates and meet their families and friends.
