U.S. News Media Group ranks SUNY Oswego among the top 15 public regional universities in the North for 2016 in its latest rating, released today, Sept. 9. Oswego is No. 14 on the U.S. News accounting of the best public institutions in the Northern region, the same as last year.
The college tied with six private institutions and one SUNY campus, Brockport, at No. 58 on the overall list of public and private regional universities in the North.
The private universities receiving the same score as Oswego are Western New England and Suffolk in Massachusetts, Gannon and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island, and Notre Dame of Maryland.
In other rankings, The Princeton Review in August again included Oswego among best Northeastern colleges, and Washington Monthly recognized Oswego at No. 53 among public master’s-level institutions nationwide. Washington Monthly looks at “contribution to the public good.”
U.S. News also selected Oswego for its “A-Plus Schools for B Students” list, as it has in recent years.
The media group’s “America’s Best Colleges” guide ranks nearly 1,400 colleges nationwide, compared on a set of performance indicators that include peer assessment, retention rate, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, the difference between predicted and actual graduation rates (58 percent and 63 percent, respectively, for Oswego—both up from last year), and alumni giving.
