The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) formally notified SUNY Oswego that at its Nov. 16 session, the MSCHE acted "to accept (SUNY Oswego's) Periodic Review Report, to reaffirm accreditation, and commend the institution for the quality of the Periodic Review Report and Process.”
“Acceptance with commendation is a special designation and is very positive action by the MSCHE for our institution and testament to the college’s collaborative and insightful work over the course of the two and a half years spent preparing the Periodic Review Report,” President Deborah F. Stanley said.
The Periodic Review Report (PRR) serves as a rigorous update to the college’s 2012 comprehensive Self-Study report submitted to MSCHE, which also resulted in successful reaccreditation without any formal recommendations for improvement.
Appointed by President Stanley, Chief of Staff Kristi Eck and Dr. Paul Stewart, tenured professor in SUNY Oswego’s psychology department, served as co-principal directors of the PRR. Their organization, analysis and leadership were exemplary. In addition, a 13-member steering committee and three subcommittees comprised of faculty and staff addressed the key components of the PRR: Assessment/Institutional Effectiveness, Enrollment and Financial Trends, and Major Challenges and Opportunities.
“The work of so many talented and dedicated people ensures our excellence for today’s students and for generations to come,” Stanley said.
Since the 2012 Self-Study, SUNY Oswego has developed a new strategic plan aligned with its state-approved Performance Improvement Plan; created a more unified and active team-based approach to continuous monitoring of our institutional progress; expanded the academic program offerings at its branch campus in the downtown of Syracuse, New York; added new academic programs in response to student and community demand and assessment of institutional capability; rejuvenated the campus through more than $236 million in capital projects; and concluded a campaign that raised $43.48 million to help support the college and students for years into the future. With well-designed programs and new developments, SUNY Oswego continues to strengthen student success outcomes and increase its reputation as well as its standings in national rankings.
The next MSCHE evaluation visit is scheduled for 2021-2022.
