Three Oswego students and one Oswego professor were recently inducted into the SUNY Oswego chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society.
Students Corinne Hotchkiss, Hayden Combs and Liza Ruby, as well as faculty member Mihai Paraschiv, were honored for their outstanding academic achievement in German as well as for their participation in cultural events focusing on the German-speaking countries.
Hotchkiss is from Horseheads and is studio art major with minors in German and zoology. She hopes to visit Germany soon and use German in her career.
Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Liza Ruby is majoring in human resource management. She hopes to be stationed in Germany in the future. In the meantime, she speaks German with her grandmothers.
Combs, from nearby Mexico, N.Y. is an adolescent education major with minors in German and political science. His longterm plan is to earn dual certification in social studies and German so he can teach in New York.
Originally from Cîmpulung, Romania, Paraschiv is a professor of economics at Oswego. He focuses primarily on international business in his teaching and research. He is studying German to better communicate with family and friends.
Organizers also recognized Ruthie Taber, who is majoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and has minors in German and linguistics. She recently studied in Kempten through Oswego’s summer program.
Patrick Schultz and Ana Djukic-Cocks, faculty members of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, welcomed the new members and thanked them for their dedication to German and its attendant cultures.
