One silver lining to all the recent lake-effect snow is providing a bonanza for this year’s Rail Jam, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, near Marano Campus Center and the academic quad.

The campus Ski and Snowboard Club continues to organize the event, and president Lowden Pratt said organizers are excited for this opportunity for people to ski or snowboard on different features in the middle of campus.

Lowden also noted that, after a couple of years with only minimal or no snow, the bounty of it will benefit the event.

“We were shoveling snow in buckets in my freshman year, trying to pour them into the quad,” said Lowden, a junior broadcasting major from outdoor winter haven Lake Placid. Last year, there wasn’t even enough snow to have an event.

“There’s definitely plenty of snow for it for this year,” Lowden said.

Participation is open to every member of the campus community, not just club members, as long as they bring a helmet and sign a waiver. Watch for more information and that signup form on the club’s Instagram account, @oswegoskiclub.

“We try to make it as simple as possible,” Lowden noted. “We love it because it gives our club exposure, but we also do it for campus relations. The more we can do on campus the better. We want to get the whole community involved, not just the people who can go on long trips with us.”

The club is looking to work with student media organizations WTOP-10 TV and WNYO 88.9 FM once again, and will have Monster Energy Drink back as a supporter.

“I’m excited,” Lowden said. “The team that set this up is excited. We’re hoping to have a good turnout."
