SUNY Oswego has extended its free application period through Sunday, Nov. 16, providing prospective undergraduate and graduate students with more time to apply at no cost.
The extension applies to applicants using the Common Application, the SUNY Application, or the SUNY Oswego Graduate Application Portal. Students who submit their application by the Nov. 16 deadline can waive the standard application fee simply by selecting “yes” to the fee waiver question during submission.
This initiative reinforces SUNY Oswego’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and aligns with one of the university’s core institutional pillars — affordability. By removing application barriers, the university aims to ensure that students who want a chance to attend SUNY Oswego can do so.
Focus on access and affordability
SUNY Oswego awards more than $80 million annually in scholarships, grants and other aid. Once a student’s application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are submitted, they are automatically reviewed for scholarship consideration with no additional forms required.
Eligible New York state residents may qualify for the Excelsior Scholarship, which covers full tuition. In addition, SUNY Oswego’s “Free Tuition Plus” program combines Excelsior with institutional merit awards of up to $22,600, helping students cover additional costs such as housing, meal plans, and books.
Opportunities for graduate and transfer students
The free application period also extends to SUNY Oswego’s more than 40 graduate programs, which serve a wide range of professional goals in business, education, communication, science, health and the arts. With flexible formats and a strong network of faculty and alumni support, graduate students benefit from a personalized, career-focused experience.
Transfer students are also encouraged to take advantage of the extended deadline. SUNY Oswego provides a streamlined transfer process, generous credit evaluations and support services that help students stay on track toward graduation.
How to apply
Prospective students must apply by Sunday, Nov. 16, to take advantage of the free application period. To get started or learn more, visit oswego.edu/free.
