A large contingent of SUNY Oswego campus members recently attended the TransAction conference, an annual event about the needs and experiences of transgender and gender queer individuals in the college environment, at SUNY Cortland on March 7.

Attendees included students and employees spanning departments including Student Orientation and Family Engagement, Residence Life and Housing, Career Services, Advancing Completion through Engagement, Experiential Learning and Campus Technology Services.

The theme for the conference was "The Personal is Political and Professional: Navigating Trans and Gender Queer Identities in Higher Education." Sessions included topics such as allyship, creating inclusive spaces, combatting myths, mental health supports, storytelling and much more.

"It was a great opportunity to learn new ways to support our students and create a more welcoming environment, and we'll definitely be back next year," said Justin Dickerson, director of Student Orientation and Family Engagement.
