It's a busy postseason for Laker athletics, as the men's basketball team returns to the NCAA Tournament while men's hockey hosts its biggest rival this weekend for a chance to get into that sport's big dance.
With a 74-63 win over Brockport on Saturday, men's basketball won the SUNYAC tournament and an automatic bid to return to the NCAAs. Oswego tips around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, March 3, against Marymount (Va.) in Laker Hall's Max Ziel Gymnasium, following the 3:15 game between John Carroll and Albertus Magnus. The winners of those games will meet at 5:45 p.m. the following day, with the winner earning a trip to the national Sweet 16.
Tickets for these basketball games are on sale starting at 1 p.m. on Friday and at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Laker Hall box office. SUNY Oswego students with valid ID enter free. For everybody else, cost is $15 for adults; $10 for students, children and seniors; free for children under 2.
SUNYAC Championship hockey
Men's hockey kept their NCAA Tournament dreams alive on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Buffalo State. A familiar foe awaits this Saturday as archrival Plattsburgh comes to town for a 7 p.m. faceoff in Whiteout 2.0. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the latest #OzWhiteout chapter -- as Laker fans wear white and show up loud and proud -- gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and another win in a series Sports Illustrated once called one of the greatest under-the-radar rivalries in all of college sports.
For the SUNYAC Championships, tickets (free for SUNY Oswego students, otherwise $8 each) for all seats in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall are available via the Marano Center Box Office -- either in person or via phone by calling 315-312-3073. All customers must present a photo ID when picking up their tickets. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, March 2 and 3, and 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.
