A number of gatherings for campus members and alumni, a headline performer and the annual Green and Gold Day Photo are among the highlights of SUNY Oswego’s Homecoming, taking place Oct. 4 and 5.
Alumni will return to campus for events including a Communication Studies Student-Alumni Reunion Dinner on Oct. 5, lacrosse reunions both days and a new event: A Zero Year Reunion, on Oct. 5, targeting the newest members of the alumni family, said Laura Pavlus Kelly, director of alumni engagement.
“Alumni, students, faculty and friends will gather for a whole range of events,” said Kelly, a 2009 SUNY Oswego graduate. “From athletics to live music to student and alumni networking, we’ll be celebrating Oswego in a variety of ways.”
Members of the campus and the community can enjoy a free concert by rapper and entrepreneur Young M.A. Touring in support of her September 2019 release "Herstory in the Making," she earned three major nominations in 2017 for BET and MTV Video Music awards. Admission to the show at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, is free but tickets are required and can be reserved online. The concert is planned for Swetman field, with Hewitt ballroom as a rain location.
The popular annual Green and Gold Photo will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, which is also the 196th anniversary of the birth of the college’s founder, Edward Austin Sheldon. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite Laker gear and show up for the annual Oswego family portrait at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in Marano Campus Center arena. Members of the Oswego family, wherever they may be, can post their photos on social media with an #OswegoPride tag.
In another free activity, Squonk Opera returns to campus with performances Oct. 4 and 5 of “Pneumatica.” “Pneumatica” is an event inspired and powered by air. Squonk Opera pumps up the volume of the show by adding live and original music to their show. The show features electronic bagpipes, visual puns, wild guitar and bass riffs, boisterous music and surreal images.
