Student Association President Takeena Strachan, Chief of Staff Justin Techmanski and Vice President Matthew O'Donnell supported the SUNY’s Got Your Back campaign while attending the SUNY Student Association Conference in November. The SUNY’s Got Your Back initiative provides opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members across the state to create comfort kits for victims and survivors of violence, and to learn methods of better preventing and responding to violence -- with the goal of building a New York where these bags are no longer needed. On Nov. 21, students in Stephanie Pritchard’s first-year signature course “I Have Something To Tell You” read their own spoken-word poems in a powerful, moving evening. They tackled topics including self-worth, addiction, bullying, relationships and more.

The annual Holiday Skate With The Lakers event Nov. 24 raised hundreds of dollars for the United Way of Greater Oswego County while providing a fun family activity for all ages to skate and interact with the women’s and men’s hockey teams. Campus members represented SUNY Oswego at the SUNY Student Success Summit in Albany, Oct. 28 to 30. The summit focused on communities of practice, drawing together committed and collaborative staff and faculty from across the SUNY system to build capacity and best practices, facilitate collaboration, network and share ideas to improve offerings. SUNY Oswego’s engineering program received a $1 million gift from SRC Inc., a Syracuse-based research and development company, to establish an endowed professorship. The gift was announced at a Nov. 26 event in the Shineman Center, and will strengthen the internationally accredited engineering offerings. The men’s and women’s hockey teams hosted food and toy drives at games on Nov. 15 and 16 to support the State Employees Federated Appeals campaign partnership with the United Way of Greater Oswego County, with a Teddy Bear Toss as part of the men’s game supporting Toys for Tots. The efforts collected around $300 in food, $200 in toys and hundreds of stuffed animals plus $900 in donations to Toys for Tots. Students, faculty, staff and guests networked during the Graduate Studies Reception Nov. 5 in Sheldon Hall ballroom to wrap up Graduate Studies Week on campus. The event included live music, food and wine, and featured the Outstanding Graduate Student Awards and Outstanding Mentor Awards.

Sophomore finance major Ramatoulaye Sy (center, holding check) earned first-place honors and a $2,000 grand prize at Nov. 15’s LaunchIt student startup competition finale. Her business, Afro Rock, is an all-natural lotion to protect and maintain the hair and scalp. She is joined by second-place (Ice Breaker) and third-place (The Shipwreck) teams, and fellow students, college administrators, alumni and business sponsor representatives who were instrumental in planning and facilitating the 2019 Launch It competition.

School of Business faculty member Dr. Stathis Kefallonitis attended the 47th International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York City on Nov. 25. He represented the inflight-entertainment sector of the airline industry. Three Oswego students and two employees were recently inducted into the SUNY Oswego chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society. Momoko Ogiso, Kayli Clubine and Eric Worrell were honored for their outstanding academic achievement in German as well as for their participation in cultural events focusing on the German-speaking countries. Music faculty members Paul Leary and Artswego programming coordinator Lowell Hutcheson were similarly recognized for their strong support of Oswego’s German language programs.
