Laker Leaders in the Class of 2023 Mike Vodzogbe, a wellness management major, and Gia Sharma, an information science major, lead a group of parents toward Marano Campus Center on July 16 during New Student Orientation.

Daniel Baldassare, an assistant professor of biological sciences, and three students are actively conducting ornithological research with the birds, mainly cardinals, of Rice Creek Field Station this summer. Shyla Luna, pictured here with Baldassare on July 7, is studying nests and hatchlings; Brooke Goodman is researching cardinal song repertories; and Denis Ramos is doing work with nests but is more involved with a feather collection and categorization project. The group is comparing how birds adapt to rural environments like Rice Creek to urban areas like Barry Park in Syracuse.

Tina Cooper, the college’s internship coordinator, poses next to a poster of her promoting SUNY Oswego joining the College Vaccine Champion Challenge, a national effort to increase vaccination rates for the benefit of public health. A 2015 Oswego biochemistry graduate, Cooper is among the students, faculty and staff featured in posters, digital signage and social media urging everybody to become fully vaccinated so they can fully take part in campus life, internships and other activities.

Educational Opportunity Program student leaders enjoy some dinner at Lakeside Dining Hall on June 30. The EOP summer program returned to campus this year, running July 5 to 30, with everything but the first week in person. The program fulfills New York State's commitment to provide access, academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not otherwise be able to attend.

Sculptor Craig Berube-Gray touches up the paint on "Slice of Heaven," a stack of orange slices sculpture, during its July 16 installation near Marano Campus Center. Just across the hill in the same quad is his second piece depicting a stack of huge popsicles titled "Popsicles." The new pieces are large, steel and cement constructions painted in realistic vivid colors.

SUNY Oswego's Syracuse campus continues a high level of activity during the 2021 summer with in-person graduate degree classes. The campus provides expanded access to a “Top 10 Public College in the North” (U.S. News, 2020) education for students and working professionals.
