Chase Strangio, deputy director for transgender justice for the ACLU's LGBTQ and HIV Project, spoke on campus on March 7 as part of the I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series. A national leader in transgender rights litigation and advocacy, Strangio has been counsel in some of the past decade’s most pivotal legal fights on behalf of transgender litigants. Earl Bellinger, a 2012 SUNY Oswego graduate now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Germany, visited campus last week to give a guest lecture and seminar to current students. The Northern lights (aurora borealis) provided a nighttime show over Lake Ontario on March 23, and SUNY Oswego students and faculty were among those documenting the phenomenon. The 60th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, open to all students to showcase their artistic talents, began with a reception March 24 in Tyler Art Gallery. The "Collage" Concert, held March 3 in Waterman Theatre, featured student and faculty performers from the SUNY Oswego Department of Music performing a wide range of selections from jazz to classical and beyond. The annual concert helps support the Music Department Excellence Fund which provides scholarship support to students. The Spring Career and Internship Fair, held March 8 in Swetman Gymnasium, gave students the opportunity to meet with over 100 local, regional and national organizations sharing information about career and internship possibilities and current opportunities. The Spring Career and Internship Fair, held March 8 in Swetman Gymnasium, also put a spotlight on student organizations, such as the student-run SHOP (Students Helping Oz Peers) food pantry located in Penfield Library, which provides students with non-perishable food items, winter clothing and personal care products.

The Healthcare Careers Conference held March 22 in Marano Campus Center gave students exploring the various paths in health care fields a chance to learn more about opportunities in such fields as pharmacy, physician, allied health, physical therapy, mental health, physician assistant, research, administration, U.S. military and chiropractics. The event included breakout sessions with alumni and other professionals discussing their careers. Rehearsals are underway for the Theatre Department's production of “Romeo and Juliet,” the famed play by William Shakespeare. The play directed by theatre faculty member Steven Mazzoccone opens April 19 and runs through April 23 in Waterman Theatre, Tyler Hall.
