Tour guide Madison St. Gelais, a junior graphic design major in the bachelor of fine arts program, provides a tour group with a bird's-eye view of campus and Lake Ontario from the Shineman Center's Innovation Wing observation deck Oct. 10 during the Office of Admissions' Columbus Day Open House for high school students, their families and mentors.

A view from Marano Campus Center lends perspective to the height of the observation deck atop part of the Shineman Center's Innovation Wing, as the campus welcomes hundreds of high school students and their mentors Oct. 10 to the annual Columbus Day Open House. The Office of Admissions plans another open house on Nov. 11.

From left are moderator Jerald Woolfolk, vice president of student affairs and enrollment management, and panelists Melanie Littlejohn, executive director of National Grid's Upstate New York service area; Jennifer Shropshire '86, owner and principal of Edward F. Alumnus Owen McDougal, class of 1992, gives a talk Oct. 7 in a chemistry seminar on "Veratrum Californicum: Of One-Eyed Sheep and Hedgehogs" in Room 122 of the Shineman Center. Senior communication and graphic design dual major Danielle Rosario (center) speaks Oct. 7 in Lake Effect Café with Chief John Rossi of University Police at SUNY Oswego during Coffee with a Cop, a free event offering students, faculty and staff a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers.

Longtime theater chair Mark Cole (left), now a professor emeritus, and Karen Bacon and Paul Bartow, who were teaching in Oswego's art department in 1996, examine some of the artifacts from a time capsule unearthed recently in conjunction with Tyler Hall Take Two Debut, a week's worth of special events coming up Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. Bartow and Bacon organized the burial 20 years ago of "Time Capsule: A SUNY Oswego Experience," a wooden box of mementoes, among them several works of student art, a textbook, a copy of The Oswegonian, baseball cards and even a pair of Birkenstocks. In the words of Bacon in an April 25, 1996, Oswegonian article, "The purpose of this project is to get people ruminating on the past and future and seeing where the connections lie." Bartow recently said, "Collegial friendships were forged across faculty, students, and departments and the Time Capsule galvanized that moment in our collective history."
