Marissa Sarbak -- a reporter/anchor for News 12 New York, host of American Kennel Club’s AKC TV and a 2015 SUNY Oswego graduate -- and 2014 Oswego graduate Matt Bishop -- a producer and AKC TV technical director and studio manager for B Live LLC and a former general manager for WTOP -- talk with students during the Career Connectors event, part of the day long Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit on Oct. 23. Seven alumni returned to campus to participate in this year's networking event in Tyler Art Gallery, which provided networking opportunities for current students.

John Popovich, chair and associate professor in the career and technical education department at Buffalo State, discusses "A Behavioral Model for Classroom and Laboratory Management" on Oct. 25 in 202 Park Hall during the 80th annual Technology Fall Conference. His talk, presenting a useful model for all levels of educators to use to teach skills and concepts, was among 62 presentations and workshop sessions for the well-attended conference, Oct. 24 and 25 in Wilber and Park Halls, hosted by the college’s technology department.

Leif Sorgule, a technology teacher at Orchard Park Schools and presenter at the 80th Fall Technology Conference, explains how to create a working Mars rover robot that will engage students in robotics. A 2009 undergraduate and 2012 master’s graduate of Oswego, Sorgule was among many alumni who presented, with many more returning as attendees working in the field.

Michaela Smith (center) recently became the latest participant in the college’s Festa Graduate Leadership Fellowship. The mental health counseling student earned the $4,000 fellowship and an intensive placement at Farnham Family Services in Oswego. Dean of Graduate Studies Kristen Eichhorn and President Deborah F. Stanley congratulate Smith. The Festa Graduate Leadership Fellowship seeks accomplished and motivated individuals who are eager to prepare for greater leadership responsibilities within their communities and professions. Alumni Fred Festa (class of 1981) and MaryLynn Barbero Festa (class of 1982) established the fellowship.

SUNY Oswego employees and students supported Wear Pink Day on Oct. 25 as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities. The on-campus effort, dovetailing with the State Employees Federated Appeal campaign to support local charities, benefited the Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program.

Rehearsals have begun for this year’s student honors production “Dead Man's Cell Phone,” directed by Ahmanee Simmons. Oct. 22 was It’s On Us Pledge Day, and students from It’s On Oz were in Marano Campus Center, offering T-shirts to those who take the pledge to stop sexual violence. Jason Keeler, a 2007 Oswego graduate, presented the Science Today talk "Connecting the Dots: Using Mobile Mesonets as a Tool for Studying Storms" on Oct. 16. Now a faculty member at Central Michigan University, Keeler described how mobile mesonets can fill in the gaps left by the Automated Surface Observing Station network, the scale of which makes it difficult to investigate smaller-scale weather phenomena such as lake-effect storms. Here he speaks with Scott Steiger of Oswego’s meteorology faculty.

Sustainability Office interns held a donated clothing sale in the Marano Campus Center concourse to raise funds for the purchase of new trees to plant on campus as a way to celebrate next year's 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
