May 7, 2018 - 11:54am
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Patricia Clark as Interim Dean of SUNY Oswego’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) effective July 2, 2018. Clark succeeds Dean Adrienne McCormick, who will complete her responsibilities this semester to become the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
In this post, Clark will provide continuing leadership to the division while the search committee for the Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences commences its work. Once the position is filled, Clark will return to her current responsibilities as associate dean.
Clark has served as the division’s associate dean since August 1, 2017, where she has reviewed 2017-18 first-year faculty term appointment files and provided recommendations; coordinated department and program self-study activities; coordinated and scheduled the 2017-18 CLAS Brown Bag Discussion Series sessions with a team of faculty across campus; served in a critical role in the development of the Humanities Collaboratory; and was an important member of the CLAS leadership team.
She has served the campus community in several capacities since her arrival in 2002 in the Department of English and Creative Writing, most notably serving as the department’s chair from 2013 to 2017. She also currently serves as acting director of the African and African American Studies program. Clark has served on numerous committees over the years including SCAC, the Women’s Studies Advisory Board, the Artswego Steering Committee, ALANA, and the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board among others. She has supported many student initiatives and events and has served as faculty adviser to the Rainbow Alliance and the Black Student Union. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Nuala McGann Drescher Award and a National Endowment for the Humanities summer stipend.
We’re extremely fortunate to have someone like Pat to be able to step into the Interim Dean role. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to SUNY Oswego and CLAS, and truly values the importance of a liberal arts education. She’s well respected on campus and will do a fantastic job leading CLAS during this time of transition.
Please join me in congratulating Pat on this new role.
