Dear SUNY Oswego Faculty and Staff,

SUNY Oswego is embarking upon a new initiative for the spring 2021 semester. It is a program called Quarantine and Isolation Buddies, and we need your help.

The goal of the program is to facilitate caring interactions with students who are isolated from everyone due to the virus.  We are joining SUNY colleagues and are following recommendations from the American College Health Association as we create support systems for students in isolation and quarantine. As a support person for student(s) in Isolation or Quarantine, you will serve as a listening ear and join a team of faculty, staff and students who provide guidance. You will receive training, updates and hear what others on campus are doing.

Quarantine and Isolation Buddies are volunteers from our faculty and staff who are open to initiating regular contact (once per day) with students in designated Isolation or Quarantine status. Students are voluntary participants in this program.  Some responsibilities of the volunteers for the program:

  • Keep confidentiality
  • Contact the assigned student via text, phone call or email once per day
  • Check in to help students navigate resources
  • Participate in an initial training and subsequent follow-up sessions
  • Complete a Google Form following each student interaction
  • We estimate that this will take approximately 5-10 minutes per day

If you are interested in becoming a Quarantine and Isolation Buddy, please complete the interest form. We will be in touch soon with further details.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Shelly Sloan
