Dear Members of our Campus Community,
It is with sadness that I share the news of the recent death of Rachid Manseur, professor and chair of our electrical and computer engineering department, who passed away yesterday morning.
Rachid made many positive contributions to SUNY Oswego guiding the founding of our engineering programs. He was admired by many and brought a powerful intellect and abundant energy to working with our engineering advisory board, his colleagues, his students and administrators. His insight and commitment will be greatly missed.
He was instrumental in leading the programs to their well-respected status, recent ABET accreditation and most importantly in developing students into well-prepared professionals in this key industry. Rachid was a driving force in the design of electrical and computer engineering spaces in the Shineman Center, ensuring they became studios combining lecture rooms and labs.
Rachid authored “Robot Modeling and Kinematics,” a textbook that included software for numeric and symbolic computation in robotics as well as modeling and visualization software for interactive simulation of robotic arms. He was an active scholar, especially in the context of teaching/learning engineering, and authored or co-authored several articles on teaching and learning, effective curriculum, robotics, digital design and related topics.
He held a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Florida.
We extend our sincere condolences to his entire family and friends during this difficult time. Information on memorial services will be shared once they become available.
