Flash flooding - local state of emergency in Oswego County
June 20, 2019 - 3:15pm
Heavy rains, which have impacted much of Central New York throughout the day, have had a significant impact on Oswego County, and in the City and Town of Oswego. A number of roads have been closed due to flash flooding. In particular, the eastbound lane of Route 104, at the main entrance to campus is currently flooded. All those departing campus, especially those traveling eastbound, are encouraged to exit by way of Washington Blvd. or Rudolph Road/Sheldon Avenue.
According to Syracuse.com, “the town of Oswego declared a local state of emergency shortly before noon today due to flooding throughout the town. Specifically County Route 7 and County Route 20 and all local roads have been closed due to water on the roads, the town announced.”
Oswego County Today reported that in the City of Oswego, West Albany Street between Hillside Avenue and Singleton Street, Gardenier Street Hill between Lazarek Drive and Hawley Street, and Mark Fitzgibbons Drive between West Fifth Street and Munn Street, are all closed due to road flooding.
In addition, a flash flood warning for Oswego County was issued by the National Weather Service earlier today and continues until 3 p.m.
As you make your way home this evening, please use extreme caution. If you encounter flooded roads, turn around; do not try to drive through water where the depth is unknown.
