March 12, 2020 - 12:00pm

Good afternoon, I would like to take this opportunity to provide some updates and support as you manage the information and recent campus messages.  Below are responses to some of the most common questions posed by students and parents:

What should I do if I need on-campus housing for spring break?
Any student who needs to remain on campus should come to the Office of Residence Life and Housing (303 Culkin Hall) to complete a “request to stay for break” form before 3:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2020.

Will residence halls be open during spring break?
Residence Hall will close at 8:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2020 for students that are choosing to leave campus for spring break. Students that have elected to stay over spring break and have completed a “request to stay for break” form will remain in their current room. There will not be a charge for spring break housing. Only students who have completed the “request to stay for break” form before 3:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2020, will be allowed access to their residence hall.

Will all residence halls reopen after spring break?
Students that remain on campus for spring break will have access to their residence hall after spring break. All other students that elect to leave for spring break will need to contact residence life via (reslife@oswego.edu) to make arrangements to return to their residence hall room if they plan to return after spring break.

If students who live in residence halls/Village Apartments leave for spring break, can they come back whenever they want?
Students that elect to leave for spring break will need to contact residence life via (reslife@oswego.edu) by Thursday, March 19, 2020 to make arrangements to return to their residence hall room if they plan to return immediately after spring break.

If students who live in residence halls/Village Apartments leave for spring break and they need to collect an item from their room can they come back whenever they want?
Students that elect to leave for spring break will need to contact residence life via (reslife@oswego.edu) to make arrangements to return to their residence hall room and collect their item(s) at any time after spring break.

If a student lives in a residence hall or Village/Apartment and does not plan to stay for spring break when should they leave their residence hall?
Residence halls will close on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 8:00 am. All students that plan to leave for spring break should leave before their hall is set to close.

If a student lives in a residence hall or Village/Apartment what should they take?
As President Stanley communicated in her message “students should leave campus for spring break and take with them any devices, textbooks and other essential items or materials to be able to continue their coursework remotely.” Students should also take any personal, valuable, or indispensable items including, but not limited to their animals. Students do not have to remove all of their belongings from their residence hall room.

Can parents and families enter residence halls with their students before the halls close at 8:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2020, to move out their students or pack up things for them to take home?
Yes.

How should students that live in a residence hall or/Village Apartment make a request to remain on campus beyond spring break?
Students who remain on-campus for the duration of spring break will be permitted to remain in their residence hall room through May 15, 2020 (unless the situation changes).  If you want to return to campus after spring break you should email your request to reslife@oswego.edu.

How will the departure of students impact residence hall services?
Students will experience limited services in the residence halls as it relates to programs, events, desk hours and mail. Students who remain in residence halls or/ Village Apartment are not permitted to host guests during this time.

What should I do about my mail and packages that I normally have sent to my residence hall if I plan to leave campus?
Students that plan to leave campus should also complete a “forwarding address card” at the front desk and change their default package settings and have their mail and packages sent to their home/personal address.
